CONEAT
is an index developed by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture
and Fisheries and the National Commission for the Economic
Studies of Land for Farming Purposes, which determines the
current capacity of the soils of Uruguay, evaluated in kilos
of beef, of meat of sheep and wool per hectare of natural
grassland, considering that the country average is 100.
CONEAT groups are not basic cartographic units
of the soils in the strict sense, but they are homogeneous
areas at the work scale used and defined by their output capacity
in terms of wool, beef cattle and sheep for meat on the hoof.
This capacity is expressed as a relative index of the mean
productive capacity of the country, which is equal to 100.From
the edaphology point of view, productivity is considered to
be the initial capacity of the soil to produce a certain yield
per hectare per year, which may theoretically be expressed
as a percentage of the optimal yield obtained from the soil
under the most favourable conditions with a given technology.
